Merry & Bright

You guys, Christmas is SO SOON! I love this time of year - drinking hot chocolate, watching Christmas movies, listening to Christmas songs, seeing all the beautiful decorations and of course, presents! I feel like this time of year is just filled with happiness and joy and I love it.

Being in the south, we don't get the typical white christmas that people up north get. There was one year where it snowed, but usually we just get rain. So it can feel weird doing all these things leading up to Christmas and it not *look* like Christmas outside. To counteract this, I try to make sure my everyday life is filled with holiday cheer, which includes scouring Pinterest for pretty Christmas pictures. So I thought I would share my "Holiday Mood Board". Full disclosure - I was listening to Mariah Carey's "All I Want For Christmas Is You" while making this, because that is the song of Christmas isn't it?

I'm very excited to almost be finished with work this week. Working in an office everyday has played a hand in not making this season feel as Christmasy as usual. I miss the days when I had a month long break, but I am not upset about the whole making some money thing so I'll deal. Plus, next week I'll be off until after New Years so it'll be nice to have a significant break. I've finished all my gift shopping and I'm pretty excited to see everyone's reactions when they open their gifts. One of my favorite things about the holidays is getting gifts for other people. It makes me happy to give people something meaningful and it just adds to that joy and happiness of the season for me.

What's your favorite thing to do during the holidays?

Gift Guide for Friends on the "Nice" List

December 13, 2016

Ah, Christmas...a time for baking while wearing a festive onesie, watching Christmas movies and drinking hot chocolate while wearing a festive onesie, and bundling up to go out and look at Christmas lights in a festive holiday onesie (under your clothes, so people don't get jealous about your festive fashion sense). Christmas is also a time for giving, and we all have that one friend who is hard to shop for. Well, the little elves at Sincerely Unfabulous have come up with some great friend gifts for any budget, so you can get back to being festive and wearing that onesie.

Deck the Halls (of your apartment)

December 6, 2016

Y'all, Christmas is my season. You're allowed to eat as many cookies as you want, there's no shortage of hot chocolate/gingerbread lattes, and let's be honest, it's the one time of year Mariah really gets to shine.

Kylie Jenner's Lip Kit Review

December 5, 2016

You've probably already heard a million things about the Kylie Lip Kits, unless you live under a rock. I went back and forth with myself about whether or not I should (or needed to) purchase these. I'd heard good things, but I knew I could probably get a really great dupe somewhere else. One day I just decided to bite the bullet and check them out. I usually don't like wearing lipgloss, so I wanted to purchase the matte lip kits, and thankfully the ones I wanted were still in stock! If you know anything about the Kylie Lip Kits then you know how fast they can sell out - especially when she's launching new products.

How To Work In An Office As An Introvert

December 2, 2016

I'm an Introvert working in an Extrovert's world. If you're an introvert, like me, you get your energy from being alone, while extroverts get their energy from being around people. However, when we are around people our energy gets drained and we simply become exhausted. This can be a big problem when you are working in an office because you're surrounded by people for 9 hours a day!

Binge Watch Like a True Gilmore

November 27, 2016

Hello, honorary citizen of Stars Hollow.

If you're like me, you have been dreaming about a "Gilmore Girls" revival since the day the original show ended. Well, the time has come to return to our favorite tiny town for some more love triangles, fast talking, and of course plenty of coffee.
In order to properly honor Lorelai and Rory, the patron saints of caffeine, we have come up with a few tips to help you binge watch like a true Gilmore.

1. Decor

Getting the cozy feeling of the Gilmore home can be easily accomplished by having you and all of your guests pile on your couch, but if you want to go the extra mile, here are some cute detailed touches that any true fan would love. First, hang some vintage Stars Hollow prints from Etsy (if your guests don't understand the references, please ask them to leave). Next, make sure everyone labels their coffee and/or wine glasses with cute themed glass charm. As an homage to the proud collection curated by Rory and Lorelai, make sure your guests only eat their Pop-Tarts off of Charlie's Angels plates. Finally, make sure that all caffeine is consumed via Gilmore worthy mugs that rest comfortably on coasters from Luke's!

2. Food

There are a few ways to respect one of the Gilmore's favorite pastimes. Of course, no Gilmore gathering could proceed without a lifetime supply of Pop-Tarts. Now add some doughnuts. Now add popcorn. Tacos are always welcome. Maybe a pizza? No, five pizzas. Bring some of Luke's pancakes. Rory would want Twinkies. Another perfect option is recreating the food delivery party Lorelai threw for Rory when she first arrived at Yale. On second thought, combine all of these options; besides, leftovers are the best.

3. Drinks

If you don't know what to drink at a "Gilmore Girls" watch party, you should not be having a "Gilmore Girls" watch party. There should be coffee. There should be an endless amount of coffee. For those of you who don't love the Gilmore drink of choice (which is crazy), I'm sure Lorelai and Rory will be fine with the consumption of red wine or Coke.

4. Dress

Grab your comfiest sweats and your skinny scarves (if you can find someone who still sells skinny scarves). The Gilmore girls believe in comfort, so let's honor them by wearing a "Coffee. Pizza. Gilmore Girls." sweatshirt, shall we? Or, try to blend in as a real Stars Hollow resident with this small town sweater. My personal favorite is this baseball-tee that let's the world know you are forever an "honorary Gilmore".

So, whether you are team Jess, Dean, or Logan, and no matter what side of the "Emily Gilmore in jeans" debate you're on, steal your family's Netflix password and begin your binge like a true Gilmore.

Our Fall Favorites

November 21, 2016

Untitled #142

Hey fashionable fam, it's that time of year; it's time to put down the sunscreen and pick up that pumpkin spice latte (or gingerbread if you're already in the holiday spirit). That's right, it's Fall. In our humble opinion, Fall is the best season for fashion, and just the best season in general. Due to our Autumn obsession, we've made a list of our favorite things that are helping us enjoy the colder weather and changing leaves. So here is Sincerely Unfabulous's official list of Fall must-haves:

Thanksgiving Outfits You'll Want To Wear

November 18, 2016

Untitled #141

You guys, we are already a week away from Thanksgiving and I could not be more excited!! Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays because you get to dress in cute outfits, eat a whole bunch of food and surround yourself with your family. I'm not usually someone who plans their outfit weeks in advance, but since I'll be leaving to go to New York and need to start packing I've been thinking about what I'm going to wear (insert picture of my standing in my closet realizing I actually have noting to wear).

Some people really dress up, but I like to keep it causal on Thanksgiving. Usually I don't even leave the house, so I opt for comfortable clothing so that I don't feel horrible after I eat all the food! Usually on Thanksgiving my family wakes up and watches the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in our PJ's, start the food preparations, eat until we can't eat no more and then usually end up on the couch watching a Christmas movie. Fabulous.

Last Thanksgiving I was in London visiting my cousin and we went to Wagamama's and then to see the Latest Hunger Games movie - so it definitely wasn't a traditional way to spend the holiday! I usually use Polyvore to plan out my outfits for special occasions or if I have a flash of inspiration. It's a fun and creative way for me to see how the outfit will look without having to put it on! I have included some of the outfits I liked best that I came up with as potential Thanksgiving options, so I thought I'd share them with you instead of keeping them to myself!

These next 2 outfits are perfect for those girls who like to be a bit dressier. If you're going to be somewhere where it's cold the first option is perfect if you add tights and a coat. The second is great if you're somewhere where it's a bit warmer! Both options are so cute you'll be getting compliments all night long...

And finally, the one I decided that I will be wearing. Granted I don't have any of these exact pieces, but I think we all have a black sweater, black jeans, and black boots in our closets, right?

There are also a lot of really good sales going one right now that you should definitely be taking advantage of. You can pick up some good pieces for the upcoming holidays or get some of your Christmas shopping done :)

We hope you all have a great Thanksgiving and Happy Turkey Day!!!

On Trend: Bomber Jackets

November 15, 2016

Now that Fall is in full swing, it's time to trade in our shorts for boyfriend jeans, our sandals for leather boots, and our sun hats for scarves.

As Sarah and I compile a list of our favorite things for Fall (a full list is in the works), we decided to give you a sneak peek of one item on the list, bomber jackets.

Bomber jackets are perfect for Fall. They give you just enough warmth to fight those crisp Autumn winds, without making you break a sweat once you head indoors. Not only are they functional, but they can easily go from day to night with the help of a few accessories.

The key to a good bomber is finding one that won't break your bank. As I was shopping this morning (in my pajamas and with a large coffee, as all online shopping should be done), I saw some jackets for as high as $1,300 (a jacket that costs as much as my rent?! No thanks!). So my friends, I decided to save you the gut-wrenching process of price tag heartbreak, and share my own list of cute and affordable bomber jackets!

My Favorite Pick: The Style Club "Babe" bomber from Nordstrom.  This jacket will keep you warm while showing off your sassy personality.

Southern Sweetness: Cotton Candy Rose Gold Bomber from Behind the Glass. This boutique in Auburn, Alabama is my favorite place to shop. This satin bomber helps me bring a little bit of the South to NY, and as a bonus, it looks great with a baseball hat.

Classic Comfort: The Kasey Bomber from Brandy Melville. This is my favorite jacket for work. I can wear it with my high-waisted corduroy skirt and my Adidas, or my jeans and Converse to be comfortable all day. My favorite part about the Kasey is the fur lining, (faux of course!) which keeps me warm and cozy.

Cute With an Edge: Patches Zip-Up from Romwe. This bomber keeps you warm while showing some personality. The classic army green gives it a retro vibe, and as a bonus it is by far the most affordable jacket in my search!

Chic and Shining: Silence+Noise Metallic Bomber from Urban Outfitters. This jacket will help you shine bright and shine far on your night out. Wear it with a crop top or with a dress, and you are sure to stand out in the crowd.

Now it's time to pour that glass of wine, get into your coziest pjs, and online shop to your heart's content!

Let's Choose Love

November 10, 2016

Well one thing is for sure, within the past few days America has been through the wringer. I struggled for a long time on whether or not we should write something about all this political chaos, but finally decided that this blog promised to give y’all stories about our lives and struggles, and this is definitely one of them.

Let me start off by saying that I am not here to pick apart either candidate, I am here to share a different side of the story, the one that happens after all the votes have been counted, the one that happens between friends and family. The hate between parties right now is so palpable; I feel it when I glance at my social media, walk down Fifth Avenue, or even when I’m shopping at Target. Right now I feel like America is a child of divorce being forced to choose whether we want to live with mom or dad. What worries me is that these sour feelings aren’t limited to strangers on the street, they follow us home; this week I have witnessed this negativity break family and friends apart. Luckily, my family and I were blessed with a similar mindset, and to us it was clear which candidate should lead us into the future. All was fine on the home front, but in New York, a really good friend and I are in a world divided, and through all of the negativity I have struggled to accurately voice my feelings on the situation.

Let me start with what I do know about my friend. My friend is caring, hilarious, loyal, faithful, generous, loving, honorable, passionate, and has been one of the most important people in my life for the past six years. We have had disagreements before and I’m sure we will disagree again; however, this difference in opinion seemed too large to overlook.

So what do we do when we don’t see eye-to-eye with a loved one? Y’ALL, WE TALK ABOUT IT. I appreciate people speaking out for what they believe in. I am obsessed with the fact that this amazing country allows us to speak our minds, but if we are not coming from a place of love and understanding, then what are we aiming to accomplish? Instead of jumping to conclusions, my best and I sat down and talked about what we felt strongly about, and most importantly about how we will not let this affect our friendship. We were able to hear and respect the other’s opinions, and we came from a place of understanding and love.

So here is what I have decided to do now that the election is over: spread love. Remember that when tragedy strikes, we don’t run to the President asking for hugs and support, we run to our family and friends. Everyone is struggling and everyone is trying to make it through life, and hateful words and actions from either side will not ease struggle, it will facilitate it. On an average day in the country we are not sides, we are not parties, we are human beings, and we are all just trying to do our best to get by.

Create & Cultivate ATL Conference

November 7, 2016

Picture from Create & Cultivate Website
Last month, I attended the Create & Cultivate Conference here in Atlanta. I've been an avid reader of the Create & Cultivate website for a few years now, and twice a year they put on conferences for bloggers and entrepreneurs in different cities where you can hear from, learn from and network with other successful or aspiring women who work in the digital space. There are a lot of bloggers and business owners, as well as people who worked in PR & Social Media. Basically, this conference is for people who want to create something of their own and cultivate their creation to grow to be something successful.

Why Ignore the Red Flags?

November 1, 2016

Have you ever dated a guy who seemed great except for "X"? Have you ever made huge sacrifices for someone who just wasn't reciprocating? Have you ever dated a guy despite what your friends and family think? It's ok, we all have.

The Unfabulous Life of an Unpaid Actress

October 30, 2016

Welcome to the first vlog! We thought we'd start out this section of the blog with an honest look at what it's like to actually be a struggling actress in New York City (and how "Glee" lied to all of us about how easy it would be).

Homebody Halloween

October 29, 2016

Do you hate that Halloween falls on a Monday? Do you hate dressing up and going out only to have your makeup smudged and your heel break? Do you have to take kids trick-or-treating because you’re a nanny and you know you won’t have it in you to go rage after escorting Ana and Elsa all over the Lower East Side? (Oh wait sorry, that’s just me). If so, might I suggest that you join a new club this year, and throw your own chic and chill homebody Halloween gathering. Having people over to your apartment for spiced cider/mixed drinks, food, and movies is the perfect way to still honor Halloween while keeping your costume and dignity in tact.

6 Awesome Halloween Costumes

October 21, 2016

It's almost Halloween! I don't know about you, but this is my favorite time of year! Just thinking about the leaves changing, the air getting a little crisper, setting up decorations and watching Hocus Pocus on repeat makes me so happy. The one thing I've always done poorly though is picking a Halloween costume far enough in advance. I seem to be more of a super last minute kind of person, which puts a lot of stress on me. You'd think I'd have learned by now...

8 Things I Wish I Knew In College

October 15, 2016

We're told that our college years will be the best years of our life. For some, this may be true, but it's not without its struggles. I graduated 5 months ago, and lately people have been asking me for advice on how to do well in college, and I find that most of the things I tell them are things I wish I had known myself. A little background on me: I went to a medium-sized, liberal arts school in a large city that was far from home. So while my experiences may have been different from others, I believe that there are certain experiences that all college kids go through. This post is mainly geared towards those experiences and to help anyone looking for a bit of advice in how to deal with the struggle that is college.

Unemployed Chic

October 13, 2016

Hey there, beautiful people. Graduating college means a lot of things. It means that you can forget about homework and term papers (unless you’re writing a blog, then the essays will never end), you’re moving out of your parents’ house (or you’re staying and saving money, I envy you), and it means that suddenly you’ve gained a newfound independence that you’ve always thought you wanted. Here’s one thing I wasn’t looking forward to after graduating: financial independence. I know, I know, that’s supposed to be something that all young adults want, and I plan on working up to being excited about it, I swear, but at the moment the only thing I feel with this independence is how light my wallet feels. My new “adult spending” plan includes fun things like groceries, electricity, a Metro Pass, and not much else. This year in order to keep myself waist-deep in White Girl Wine, I’ve decided to embrace the “Unemployment Chic” look. Here’s five ways to keep yourself looking adorable and have enough money left over to treat yourself to that pumpkin spice latte:

We All Eat Fast Food Sometimes

Within in the first couple weeks of my big move to New York, I have learned a few things. Cheap Chinese food isn’t a bargain; it’s a death sentence. Your neighbors don’t like you walking across your apartment in tap shoes. When in Times Square, elbows can be used as weapons. Never make eye contact on the subway. All of these lessons are important and guarantee survival in the city, but the most important lesson thus far is the one that everyone tries to keep secret: no one knows what they are doing.

On Trend | Suede Skirts

There's something about suede that transports you back to the 70's and it has been a massive trend this year. Suede skirts in particular will continue to be huge this fall. It is such a versatile piece that you can incorporate it practically into any outfit, whether it be incredibly casual or effortlessly glamorous, and achieve so many different looks. It makes a fashionable statement without being over the top, but the one thing you can count on is that it's always comfortable. While a suede skirt can cost you a pretty penny, you can get a great faux suede skirt for a much more reasonable price from places like  Nordstrom,  Asos, and  Forever 21!

Top Row: Julie Sarinana, Danielle Bernstein, Amy Jackson, and Karlie Kloss // Bottom Row: Vanessa Hudgens, Hailey Baldwin, Alexa Chung, and Emily Ratajkowski

Pair it with a nice blouse, comfy sweater or a casual t-shirt - Here's how I'd style it...
