6 Awesome Halloween Costumes

October 21, 2016

It's almost Halloween! I don't know about you, but this is my favorite time of year! Just thinking about the leaves changing, the air getting a little crisper, setting up decorations and watching Hocus Pocus on repeat makes me so happy. The one thing I've always done poorly though is picking a Halloween costume far enough in advance. I seem to be more of a super last minute kind of person, which puts a lot of stress on me. You'd think I'd have learned by now...

This year, I've been a little better about it. Admittedly, I've really only started thinking about it this past week, but I've already come up with a few ideas. Here at Sincerely Unfabulous we are all about pop culture related costumes! We love keeping up with the times and creating a look based off our favorite TV shows, movies or celebrities. I've come up with a few inspirational outfit options for several different types of costumes that would be perfect to put together this Halloween!

We both are absolutely in love with Scream Queens and with the second season just starting up again there's a resurgence of love (or hate?) going around for our favorite character, Chanel Oberlin, who is like a meaner version of Regina George, and we are here for it. 2016 was a terrible year for Chanel. Her parents disowned her, she had to get an actual job, and then her fiancé got murdered. Celebrate Chanel-O-Ween by going as the ultimate Scream Queen. She also has a lot of iconic one liners that you can throw around all night - like "good evening, idiot hookers" or "what fresh hell is this?"

Raise your hand if you binged Stranger Things recently on Netflix. Our hands are definitely raised! We watched that show like it was our job and we loved every minute of it! All the actors are amazing, but there's no character that pushed their way into our hearts like Eleven did (Dustin is a close second in mine). This costume will be SO POPULAR this Halloween, and for the simple reason that it's really, really cool. Don't forget to add some fake blood dripping from your nose and a blonde wig (although it's not totally necessary because wigs are expensive). And you get to carry around waffles with you - midnight snack, anyone?

I love a good creepy costume! This one is probably the most complicated simply because it all revolves around the makeup. Obviously not everyone is going to be able to create a makeup look exactly like what is done in these tutorials (xx) and if you're not feeling up to doing that much makeup, go for more of a zombie look like this. But the easy part is that you probably have what you need for a cute all black outfit - so you all you really need to focus on is the makeup. If you want to add a cool touch put these on your hands!

The best type of costume is a comfortable costume, and it doesn't get more comfortable than basically going in your pajamas! Throw on an oversized white shirt (steal one from your Dad or boyfriend), an eye mask, tassel earrings and comfy shoes and you're good to go! Maybe throw on some shorts underneath- just in case!

This is such a great costume and a total throwback to the good old Disney Channel days! It's all about metallics and bright colors, so you can use whatever you have on hand, or you run to your nearest American Apparel or party store (or take advantage of that awesome thing called Amazon). Add some sparkly makeup, throw your hair up in pig tails or top knots, and wrap them with a metallic scrunchie, and you're Zenon Girl of the 21st Century! Don't forget to add in a Zetus Lapetus every so often!

Keeping with the theme of childhood throwbacks, we have the Tooth Fairy! This look is about being a little more girly and whimsical, so find a flowy or tulle skirt and a white top paired with neutral colored shoes. For the final touch add a tiara and a little glitter to your makeup look. To really go all out carry a bag with "Teeth" written on it!

I hope you guys found these helpful in picking out your own costumes for this year. I still haven't nailed down what I'm doing yet but I'll get it figured out really soon, hopefully!

What are you going as for Halloween this year?
